128th IOC Session – 2022 Olympic Winter Games Host City Selection

Almaty_Beijing copy July 29, 2015 (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) – The 128th IOC Session, in which FIS President Gian Franco Kasper is participating in his capacity as IOC Member, will open on Friday, July 31, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur (MAL).

The Session, which is the general meeting of the members of the IOC and its supreme decision-making body, will feature updates on Olympic Agenda 2020, reports from different areas of the IOC’s activities, a presentation by PyeongChang 2018 on the preparations for the Games, the election of new IOC members, and votes on positions on the IOC Executive Board.

One of the highlights will be the election of the host cities for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games and the 2020 Youth Olympic Winter Games on July 31st. The cities bidding to host the 2022 Olympics are Almaty (KAZ) and Beijing (CHN). Meanwhile, Brasov (ROU) and Lausanne (SUI) are the candidates for the 3rd edition of the Winter YOG 2020.

AIOWF Gathering and International Federation Olympic Games Management Briefing

In conjunction with the IOC Session, the seven federations of the Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations (AIOWF) will gather in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, 30th July with FIS President Gian Franco Kasper overseeing the meeting as AIOWF President.

The association will receive updates from the IOC Executive Board Meetings, SportAccord as well as from the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

Additionally, both the Winter and Summer Federations will participate at a seminar organised by the IOC in regard to Olympic Agenda 2020 Recommendation 13,“Maximise synergies with Olympic Movement stakeholders to ensure seamless organisation and reduce costs – The IOC to enhance the role of the International Federations (IFs) in the planning and delivery of the Olympic competitions, including the study of transferring responsibilities from the OCOGs to the IFs.”

FIS Secretary General Sarah has been appointed to the IOC Working Group for IF Games Management.
