September 30, 2008 – Exciting things are in the making for the upcoming race season! New England skiers as well as those from regions across the country will have the opportunity to experience new trails at one of our familar race venues, new events in the form of USSA Super Tours, and a newcomer to the TD Banknorth Eastern Cup series complete with brand new lodge and trails.
Starting off, the TD Banknorth Eastern Cup Series will once again feature eight races spread over four weekends from late December through the end of February. Trapp Family Lodge and the Stowe Nordic Club will host the opening weekend in December. The Eastern Cup Series takes a short break for the Holidays and for US Nationals before moving to Black Mountain in Rumford, Maine.
In Rumford, skiers and spectators will be treated to the Chisholm Ski Club’s long standing expertise at running these events. Next up will be the inaugural Eastern USSA Super Tour Sprint event, also at Black Mountain. This weekday event kicks off Super Tour week in the East! NENSA and the event organizer’s are working hard to make these events memorable for participants and spectators alike-stay tuned for more details! The series then moves back to Vermont where the USSA Super Tour Races /Eastern Cup continue at Trapp Family Lodge. This weekend will also serve as UVM’s Carnival and New England’s third JOQ weekend.
Wrapping up the Eastern Cup and JOQ Series in late February will be the Silver Fox Trot, hosted by the Ford Sayre Club, and Gunstock Nordic’s hosting of the final races. The 2009 Junior Olympic team will also be named following the Gunstock event.
Participants in these events will be vying for points for the overall male and female TD Banknorth Eastern Cup Series; for juniors, JOQ points which are used to select the New England Junior Olympic Team and NRL points which can help athletes establish improved seed positions at US Nationals and JO’s. Link to the racing page for more info on Eastern Cup and JO qualifying.
NENSA in collaboration with Event Organizer’s are looking forward to offering racers, spectator’s and coaches an exciting winter of racing here in the Northeast and we look forward to seeing you at these events.
