2016-17 Winter Preview – Canada’s Northern Lights of the Nordic Sports

October 27, 2016 – Check out this great summary report of Canada’s Nordic sports including cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski jumping and Nordic Combined athletes by the Canadian Olympic Committee on their official team site. With less than a year and a half to the start of PyeongChang 2018, it’s time to get primed on some of the truly traditional winter sports. The report looks at xc ski stars like Alex Harvey, Devon Kershaw and Emily Nishikawa with some history as well from the likes of Beckie Scott, Sara Renner and Chandra Crawford.

For biathlon Nathan Smith, the first Canadian male biathlete to stand on a world championship podium winning sprint silver, leads a motived team including Smith joined with Christian Gow, Scott Gow and Brendan Green that took home bronze in the 4 x 7.5km relay at the biathlon Worlds. Plus the women’s squad led by Olympians Rosanna Crawford and Megan Tandy including rising star Julia Ransom.

Atsuko Tanaka and Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes are two of Canada’s top ski jumpers while Nathaniel Mah, 21, is a strong hopeful in Nordic Combined. Other sports are covered as well in this fifth “lookahead” COC report here.
