2016 IBU Youth/Junior Worlds Day 1 – Canada’s Sanchez 13th and Bankes 19th

January 27, 2016 (Cheile Gradistei, Romania) – The 2016 IBU Youth/Junior World Championships kicked off today in Romania with the 10/12.5km Youth Individual competitions as Canada’s Teo Sanchez with Chelsea Nordiq in Quebec took home a solid 13th with two penalties in Youth Men’s race leading three Canucks into the top 20.

Megan Bankes [P] Biathlon Canada

Adam Runnalls with the Calgary Biathlon Racers placed 17th with four missed targets. Earlier in the day Foothill Nordic’s Megan Bankes was the top North American woman finishing 19th with seven penalties in the women’s 10km race which was postponed for 1.5 hours due to fog that covered the stadium. Amanda Kautzer led the US women in 59th with six missed targets while the top US youth man was Cody Johnson 43rd with three penalties.

Marina Sauter of Germany won the women’s race suffering two penalties while Norway Harald Oeygard claimed the gold in the men’s competition with one penalty.
