June 16, 2015 (Red Deer, AB) – Following a national search, the 2019 Canada Winter Games Host Society is pleased to announce Scott Robinson as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer.

“Scott brings a wealth of experience in sport and volunteer management to the team,” said Lyn Radford, Chair of the 2019 Canada Winter Games Host Society. “We are confident his leadership skills, not-for-profit experience and passion for Red Deer will ensure the successful delivery of the largest multi-sport and cultural event for youth in Canada. On behalf of the 2019 Canada Winter Games Board of Directors, I am thrilled to welcome Scott to our team.”

Robinson joins the 2019 Canada Winter Games team following 23 years with Hockey Alberta, including ten years as the Executive Director of the Hockey Alberta Foundation. A Red Deer resident for over two decades, Robinson was actively involved with the Red Deer Bid Committee, which secured the 2019 Games, as well as the Transition Team that was working with the Canada Games Council and City of Red Deer to transition from a Bid Community to Host Society.

“I am honoured to have been selected as the CEO of the 2019 Canada Winter Games,” said Robinson. “Following my experience with the Red Deer Bid Committee and Transition Team, as well as my experience in the recreation and sport sector over the past 25 years, I am ecstatic at the opportunity to contribute to the legacy of the Canada Games in Red Deer.”

In April 2015, a national search for the CEO of the 2019 Games was launched in consultation with a third party human resources firm. Robinson was selected as the successful candidate from over 30 qualified applicants. He will step into his new role on August 15, 2015.

The 2019 Games is also pleased to welcome Ron and Cari MacLean as Honorary Board Chairs of the Games. “It was a privilege to help support Red Deer in the bid to host the 2019 Canada Winter Games and we are delighted at the opportunity to help showcase Red Deer to the nation in 2019,” said Cari MacLean.

Red Deer Mayor Tara Veer commented, “with the addition of Robinson and the MacLeans, along with the Community-at-Large and Organizational Appointments to the Board of Directors, the 2019 Games is building an experienced team that embodies the community enthusiasm, event leadership and volunteerism that Red Deer is known for.”

The Canada Games Council, 2019 Games Board of Directors and Robinson are in the midst of a two-day visioning session to help set the Board’s strategic vision and mandate for the 2019 Games.

“On behalf of the Canada Games Council I would like to congratulate Scott, Ron and Cari on their announced roles,” said Tom Quinn, Canada Games Council Chairman. “As the 2019 Host Society builds the important foundation for success through key leadership positions and establishing the vision for the 2019 Canada Games in Red Deer, a solid and bright future emerges for Canada’s largest multi-sport event for developing youth in 2019.”
