Adios SuperTour, Hello APU Races

provided by the US Ski Team

November 10, 2005 – A lack of snow forced the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage organizers to cancel the cross country SuperTour races, scheduled for this weekend, on Wednesday. The Anchorage races, scheduled for Nov. 12-13, were the second stop on the SuperTour.

A short time later, Alaska Pacific University Nordic Ski Center said it would hold races Saturday and Sunday at either Hatcher Pass or Alyeska Ski Resort. They will not be SuperTour races but will be National Ranking List events and, according to U.S. Head Coach Trond Nystad, will be used in considering who will compete next month in World Cup races in Canada.

“It’s too bad the SuperTour races won’t be held because that means two fewer race results for consideration when we pick the Olympic Team in January,” Nystad said. “But hats off to Jim Galanes and the APU Nordic staff for stepping up to hold the races. That’s great news and we’ll have the national team guys competing.”

U.S. skiers will race Dec. 10-18 at Sovereign Lake in Vernon, B.C., and then Canmore, Alberta; athlete selection for will be announced following the SuperTour races over Thanksgiving Weekend in West Yellowstone, Mont.
