August 15, 2016 (St-Augustin-de-Desmaures, QC) – Canada’s top Nordic skier finished third in the 118km Garneau-Québecor Granfondo finishing on August 14 reports QMI. There were some 2,500 riders participating in the 8th annual edition of this mass ride between Trois-Rivières and Saint-Augustin, raising some $90,000 for charity. The winner, Olivier Piché from Boucherville, stopped the clock in three hours.
“I’ve been doing road cycling training, but to ride in a peloton is another dynamic,” said Harvey. He related how two former team mates of his father, Marc Blouin and Ivan Waddell, gave him some guidance. “They told me where to position myself; they have more experience than me riding in a peloton. “
Harvey’s ski resume boasts over 20 podiums including four FIS Nordic World Championship medals – gold at Oslo in 2011 (Team Sprint), silver (Individual CL Sprint) and bronze (30km Skiathlon) at Falun 2015; and bronze at Val di Fiemme in 2013 (Individual CL sprint). As a U23 skier Harvey won gold in the 30km Skiathlon at Estonia in 2011 and he has three Junior Worlds medals as well. He has competed at two Olympic Winter Games (2010, 2014). Harvey, 27, is the son of former Olympic skier and road cyclist Pierre Harvey.
Between the two sports, the father competed at four Olympics (1976, 1984, 1984, 1988), finishing 24th in the Road Race at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. He also won silver in the Road Race at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton.
