Alpina Starts Sledding With Hamax

provided by Alpina Sports

December 5, 2003 – According to Steve Kvinlaug,  “We saw a nice complement to our existing winter products lines. All of the Hamax line is top quality, not junk and their SnoXross sled is very innovative… dealers have been excited at this new source of sales.”

Topping the new line is the SnoXross, a hybrid tri-ski snow scooter. The rugged low rider sled is big enough for an adult rider up to 200 lbs, but really intended for younger riders.

Unlike a snow-bike, the rider sits on a long seat, resting their knees in anatomically shaped pockets on the two side skis. The position provides a low center of gravity and excellent weight shifting control. The front steering ski is shaped to provide smooth steering, and features full length tracking ribs to insure stability and response.

The frame is a lightweight, powder coated steel alloy with heavy-duty HDPE plastic seats, skis, and handles. The frame also offers a convenient folding design, for easy storage.

There is a hand brake with steel teeth that does a great job of bringing the rider back from light speed. The SnoXross will retail for just over $100 US.

At the other end of the seven-model sled line is the very simple Hot Sheet snow-shovel style plastic, fanny sled. Built to last these little screamers are almost an impulse item at under $10 US retail, but are made of very rugged HDPE. The Hot Sheet features a deep, molded-in shovel shape and centered handle. There are directional groves to aid in tracking.

The Hamax Manufacturing Company is about 100 km south of Oslo,  Norway.  It specializes in injection molding of thermoplastics, producing high-end child and infant car seats, helmets and sleds. Their designs have garnered a number of industrial awards of excellence in terms of both design and manufacture.
