Applications Invited for 2004 Olympic Academy

January 12, 2004 (Toronto, ON) – The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) is inviting applications from across Canada for the 18th session of the Olympic Academy of Canada (OAC) to be held in Calgary, July 3-8, 2004.

The OAC is a leadership development program that provides current and future sport leaders with exceptional opportunities to learn about and discuss the issues and current status of the Olympic movement.  The theme of the 2004 OAC will be ìMaking a Differenceî. Delegates will hear from speakers including Olympians, about how Olympism has made a difference in their lives and how, in turn, they strive to make a difference.  Delegates will participate in group discussions and presentations, including the creation of an action plan for their continued involvement in the Olympic Movement.

Applications to attend this program are invited from individuals 18 years of age and older.  This includes athletes, coaches, professional and volunteer sport administrators, corporate representatives, teachers, university students, officials, journalists and individuals who have a specific interest in taking a leadership role in the Olympic Movement.

The COC, a private, not-for-profit corporation, is the largest private funder of high-performance sport in Canada. It is responsible for all aspects of Canada's involvement in the Olympic movement, including Canada's participation in the Olympic and Pan American Games. In addition, the COC manages a wide variety of programs that promote the Olympic movement in Canada through cultural and educational means.
