October 17, 2007 (Ottawa, ON) – AthletesCAN congratulates Paralympic Awards 2007 Winners Brian McKeever, cross country skiing, Lauren Woolstencroft, alpine skiing, and the Canadian Ice Sledge Hockey Team.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced the winners Monday in Germany. The awards honour those who contribute directly to the Paralympic Games and the Paralympic Movement. The 2007 Awards were based on performance at the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games.

“It is great to see Canadian athletes have such an impact on the international stage,” says AthletesCAN President Claire Carver-Dias. “What a fantastic way to cap off an already outstanding Games performance in Torino. Our congratulations go out to Brian, Lauren and members of the Sledge Hockey Team!”

Canadian athletes triumphed in three of the five IPC Awards categories. McKeever was honoured as best male athlete, Woolstencroft as best female athlete and the Sledge Hockey Team as best team performance.
