Atomic XC Ski Camps

provided by Norm Crear

September 6, 2005 – Dear XC Campers!

Just a short note to let you know that winter is on the way. Now that
we are over the September long week-end and the kids are back in
school, it is time to get organized for the early season XC Camps. I
was up at Silver Star Mountain yesterday and it is definitely cooling
off. The fireweed that grows around the area has started to go to
seed. Local folklore has it that the fireweed starts to go to seed
from the bottom up. When the fluffy stuff hits the top of the plant,
it is 3 weeks till the first major snows. So now you know and I will
pass on the fireweed reports.

There is a lot going on at Silver Star Mountain and you can check on
that as well as the live cam by logging on to www.skisilverstar.com
{http://www.skisilverstar.com}. The towers were flown in for the new
ski lift last Friday and the runs have been cleared. As well, on the
XC front, the loggers are about finished with the Pine Beetle logging
and the logging roads are being turned into new XC trails. Lots of new
and exciting things happening.

The international XC teams are making their commitments for training
before the World Cup. As I mentioned in the last update, the teams
will be at Silver Star Mountain Resort for the three weeks before the
World Cup Dec 10 and 11. We will be skiing with them and living with
them for the duration of all of the camps. There is no other XC Cki
Area that will ever have the opportunities we will have this fall.

Please make sure you do not miss out on this opportunity. Register
for the camps now online at www.xccamps.ca {http://www.xccamps.ca} or
by phone at 1-800-610-0805. If you have XC friends, forward this note
on to them.
