October 22, 2004 – It is snowing at Silver Star mountain and has been for
the past few
days. Not enough to ski on but enough to get all the mountain workers
excited about getting the last of the summer projects completed. You
can view the SSM main street via the live web cam at

page of this site, click on “About Silver Star” on the menu on the
left and then on “Photo Gallery” on the right and there are a number
of interesting photos regarding XC trail building, new XC warming
hut, flora and fauna—

Last spring Sandy Cook and Tom Hansen of our Faculty and Glenn Bond,
Nordic Manager, were filmed by Steve Smart. Steve is the Technical
Director of both the Silver Star Mountain and Big White Ski Schools.
Steve has edited and produced a video on how we at the XC Camps ski.
This video is going through the final editing process and will be put
on DVD and will be available for use at the camps. As well, you will
be able to take a copy of this DVD home with you for future
reference.

On a further technical note, Keith Nicol, another member of our
faculty and a technical director of the Canadian Association of
Nordic Ski Instructors has a web site with technical pointers on it.

If you have not registered for the camps, I would encourage you to do
so as soon a possible. I must make commitments to our faculty members
to make sure they can arrange time to come to the camps and work with
you folks.

As there is a lot happening on the XC scene at Silver Star Mountain,
I will be sending updates once a week until the camps start.
