Austria’s Morgenstern Wins World Ski Jump Cup In Norway

March 11, 2006 – Olympic champion Thomas Morgenstern of Austria had the longest jump of the first round Friday night and held on to win a World Cup large hill (HS134) ski jumping meet at the 1994 Olympic site. Alan Alborn (Anchorage, AK) was 35th.

Morgenstern jumped 138 and 132 meters, good for 289.0 points while Bjoern Einar Romoeren of Norway went 134 and 135 meters (282.2).

With three jump meets remaining, Czech Jakub Janda leads the points with 1,104 with defending triple World Cup champion Janne Ahonen of Finland second at 952. The jumpers compete Sunday at Holmenkollen in Oslo and have two ski-flying events March 18-19 in Planica, Slovenia.
