Biathlon World Cup Russia Finale Mixed Relay – Germany Wins, Canada 12th

March 28, 2010 (Khanty-Mansiysk, RUS) – The final event of the IBU Biathlon World Cup, a mixed gender relay, was held on Sunday in the central Siberian town of Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, a fitting finale to the World Cup season showcasing the best of each nation’s men’s and women’s teams.

Ultimately it was the German quartet of Simone Hauswald, Magdalena Neuner, Simon Schempp and Arnd Pfeiffer that won the gold, a full 1:24.0 ahead of 2nd place Norway. The Norwegian combination of Ingvild Flatland, Tora Berger, Eil Hegle Svendsen, and Ole Einar Bjoerndale took the silver while Sweden’s team of Helena Jonsson, Anna Carin Olofsson, Bjoern Ferry and Carl Johan Bergmann was third, just 6.8 seconds behind Norway. Despite finishing in fourth at 11.3 seconds behind Sweden, the Russian team was applauded by local fans.

The Canadian squad of Megan Tandy, Zina Kocher, Jean Philippe LeGuellec and Brendan Green had a great race finishing 12th overall at 5:39.4, ahead of such teams as Switzerland, Slovakia, Poland and Finland.
