Bjorn Daehlie Auction for Mahon Fund
During a visit to Norway to ski and see some friends, a BNC board member had the fortune to meet a friend of their friend’s, Bjorn Daehlie. By chance, the death of Brian Mahon came up in subsequent conversation and Daehlie voluntarily offered several items of Bjorn Daehlie clothing and some memorobilia as items for charitable auction for the Mahon memorial fund.

Consequently, this autumn, probably at the annual Expo, the BNC with help from its partners like Boulder Nordic Sport will auction off these donated items with 100% of the proceeds going to the Mahon Scholarship Fund. More details will follow. Boulder Nordic is grateful to Mr. Daehlie for his kind gesture and Boulder Nordic will send a formal thank you to Mr. Daehlie as well.

Birkie Open Track Event
Skiers have asked for it and now the American Birkebeiner Foundation announces a new “Open Track” event, the Birkie Trails Ski Tour scheduled for Saturday, January 23, 2010. The “Tour” is freestyle and includes several distance options from 23K to 50K. It is untimed and non-competitive. It is designed to be a fun event with no pressure!

The tours begin at the Birkie start line, with skiers taking off anytime during a one to two hour window, depending on the distance they’re skiing, and finishing at “OO” or further down the trail at Hatchery Park. There will be food at the end of each tour, and buses waiting to take you back to your vehicle at the start line.

This is your chance to enjoy a supported, low cost “tour” of the great Birkie and Birkie Classic Trails, whether you’re preparing for the 37th American Birkebeiner or are just looking for a fun, recreational ski! In fact, the 50K Birkie Tour qualifies as a Worldloppet Gold Event. More info is available at http://www.birkie.com/?page=1154.
