Boulder Nordic’s Henry Toll – In Memorium

release by Boulder Nordic Club

October 29, 2008 (Denver, CO) – Henry Toll passed away recently. He has been a strong supporter of BNC since we started. Most of the land we ski on at Eldora is Toll property, Phoebe, Meadows. Jenny Creek loop and Buckeye Basin. Henry was an avid cross-country skier and until a few years ago was frequently seen on the trails. In the early days, although we made him a courtesy member he still sent in his membership dues. In about 1990 he even joined in our April Carnival Wooden Ski Race and was a member of the winning relay race. The other members of his team were a couple of juniors, Pete Vordenberg, now the head coach of the U.S. Nordic Ski Team, and Nathan Schultz, one of the U.S.’s top Nordic skiers for several years and founder/owner of Boulder Nordic Sport.

Our agreement with Henry when we groomed the trails for a year was to pay his real estate taxes and to give him a share of any profit we made. We gave him so much money that he immediately gave it back to us to expand the trail system.
One idea of Henry’s was for us to re-build the old cabin on Twin-twisted as a warming hut but we decided that it was really a scrap-off. If we ever do get a warming hut up on the trails, we should name it after him. A few years ago Henry passed over management of the Eldora land to his son Bill and we look forward to continue working with Bill and Tina for the improvement of the trail system.
We extend our condolences to his wife Lydia and children and mourn his passing. For Henry’s full orbituary see here.
