April 19, 2007 (Brunswick, ME) – As reported in the Times Record the Bowdoin College Athletic Department has announced the resignation of Marty Hall as the head coach of the Nordic Skiing Program. Hall, a former coach of both the Canadian and American national teams, had been at Bowdoin since 2000. An immediate search for his replacement in under way.

“It was a pleasure to have Marty with us over the past eight years,” said Jeff Ward, director of athletics. “His enthusiasm for his student/athletes was unparalleled and his experience in the sport invaluable. The growth of the program has been remarkable, and we will look to build upon his success as the program moves forward.”

This past season was the most successful in recent memory for the Nordic team, as the squad posted several best-ever finishes, both individually and as a team on the Division I New England Intercollegiate Skiing Association circuit. Hall’s decision to resign was cited as personal.

“I’ve had a blast,” said Hall. “The decision wasn’t easy because I was having a great time. But I’m getting up there in age and have some other things I’d love to pursue while I have the opportunity – including racing again. More than anything else, this job has restored my faith in young people. The kids at this school are extraordinary. They’re excited to learn and are allowed to have such a great balance between athletics and academics. In eight years, I can’t remember a single bad experience.”

Hall, who resides in Ottawa with his wife, has just completed building a house and will return to Canada full-time. His immediate interests include returning to age-group racing.
