Canada Exports Skiing Expertise to Sweden

release by CCC
January 23, 2013 – Chandra Crawford’s creation, Fast and Female, has grown from a single clinic put on by Chandra and other members of the Women’s National Team in 2005, to a program that has spread across North America and to a variety of other sports – read more HERE.

The aim of the program is to support, motivate, inspire, and empower girls ages 9 to 19 to stick to sports and the healthy lifestyle by exposing them to innovative programming led by world-class female athletes who act as ambassadors and positive role models.

The program has now taken the next step, the first Fast and Female clinic in Sweden.  Why Sweden? Well to start with, while the races may not be directly comparable, Sweden had 39 senior women competitors at their National Championships last year, while Canada had 71…..

The move to Sweden is spearheaded by Swedish ski star Anna Haag. She is organizing the first Swedish event at the Swedish Ski Games/World Cup in Falun this March.

Fast and Female in Falun

Posted Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 20:49 in Anna Haag of Anna Haag
Since a few years back, I had a dream about arranging a Fast and Female event in Sweden.
Fast and Female is an organization founded by Chandra Crawford in connection with her Olympic gold medal in the sprint at the 2006 Olympics in Turin. An organization that works to get young girls to discover the joy of sports. Not only skiing, but to turn himself in general. You can read more about it here Fast and Female|
The first time I heard about it I felt ” this is I get to Sweden, in any way ” . And after talking more with Chandra, and Kikkan Rabdall and Liz Stephens (who is also the ambassador for Fast and Female, along with the rest of the national team coaches from the U.S. and Canada), we decided to hold an event in Falun in the Swedish Ski Games . Even last year, there was the thought there, but we never got to.On 25 March this year, it is Sweden Premiere of Fast and Female in Falun. To help in the event I will have Kikkan and Liz and Charlotte Kalla. I also hope to get to me more of the Swedish team and I’ve asked a few other nations if they also want to be with.
Our dream is that the girls are having to come home from the event filled with inspiration, joy and new friends. That they get a glimpse of how our world looks like, as a professional skier shoes, how it is to win medals and how it is when it may not go as you want. That they have had the chance to ask questions of their idols, been training with them and just “hung” for a while.
An afternoon of inspiration!
The event is aimed at girls between 11-15 years and no previous experience in skiing is not required. There is something for all levels. However, we can not account for equipment. We will have activities both indoors and outdoors. And we start at 16 and end at at 19. Collection is at Lugnets Ski Stadium, the main entrance. .
Cost:  100kr / person, the price includes a goodie bag, including T-shirt and snack.
