Canada’s Beaudry a Strong 5th at Women’s 10km at 2013 Biathlon Youth World Championships

January 29, 2013 (Obertilliach, Austria) – Canada’s Sarah Beaudry had a superb race finishing just off the podium in fifth today in the women’s 10km Individual competition at the 2013 Biathlon Youth World Championships in Obertilliach, Austria won by Uliana Kaisheva (RUS).

The Prince George, B.C., missed just two shots as she posted her best finish on her second trip to the Worlds. “I definitely felt that if I had a good race I was capable of having this result,” said the 18 year old. “I was really nervous earlier in the week, but treated today as a fresh start and was much more relaxed and ready to go. I am really happy and looking forward to skiing the relay.”

Kaisheva missed two shots (1+0+1+0) on her way to a solid victory as the Ukraine grabbed silver and bronze as Yuliya Zhuravok was second at 1:20.9 (0+1+0+1) and Anastasiya Merkushyna took third missing three shots.

Anna Kubek (USA) was 38th while Canada’s Leilani Tam Von Burg (Ottawa, ON) was 50th, Emily Dickson, of Prince George, B.C., placed 54th, Charlotte Hamel, of Sherbrooke, Que., was 61st, Aleksandra Zakrzewska (USA) placed 72nd and Mikaela Paluszek (USA) finished 79th.
