Canada’s Kocher Leads NA Women at IBU World Cup Opener – Domracheva Wins

November 30, 2011 (Ostersund, Sweden) – Canada’s Zina Kocher lead the North American women in 35th despite a tough day of shooting in the women’s 15km individual start season-opener E.ON IBU Biathlon World Cup in Ostersund won by Darya Domracheva, of Belarus with a time 47:15.6. Sweden’s Anna Marin Nilsson was second in 48:24.1, while Germany’s Magdalena Neuner grabbed the bronze with a time of 48:57.3.

Canada’s Megan Imrie, of Falcon Lake, Man., had one of her top World Cup results in 41st at 54:35.8, while Rosanna Crawford, of Canmore, Alta., finished 70th (57:39.9). The USA’s Sara Studebaker from Boise, ID was in good position, until the final shooting range when she missed three to finish 44th (54:46.3). Susan Dunklee (Barton,VT) racing in her first World Cup placed 45th  (54:47.5); Lanny Barnes (Durango, CO) finished 48th (54:54.5); and Laura Spector (Lenox, MA) placed 73rd (58:11.7).
