January 4, 2003 – Jason Myslicki, the 26-year-old, from Thunder Bay, Ont., scored 210.0 points from the K90 tower for his best two jump total of the season that placed him in 17th position to start the 15 kilometre cross-country race.

“I'm sure making progress on the ski jump side, it was a long time coming but I had a great result on the hill and its only going up from here,” said Myslicki, who dropped back to 39th place after skiing the cross-country portion of the event with a broken pole. “Although I dropped back in the overall results, I did what I wanted to in the race, caught a couple guys and finished hard.”

Todd Lodwick of the United States continued his recent climb up the nordic combined podium with his first World Cup win of the season. He finished the cross-country ski race in a time of 34:29.5, followed closely by two podium regulars who came in less than a second behind. Ronny Ackermann of Germany, who has won four events this season, finished in second place only 0.7 seconds behind Lodwick. Hannu Manninen of Finland, who is ranked second in the world, captured the final podium spot in third, just 0.9 seconds off the pace.

Myslicki stopped at Calgary's Canada Olympic Park over the holidays for some training and credits his time with coaches for his improved confidence on the hill. “I had some great one-on-one time in Calgary, some time to think about it, and I feel like my jumping technique is working for me. Every race is a learning experience and as the season goes on, my legs will keep me closer to the top.”

Canada's Myslicki will travel to Seefeld, Austria for the next nordic combined event, a Sprint race, on January 10, 2004.
