January 11, 2004 – Canada's 26-year-old Jason Myslicki, our country's first World Cup nordic combined athlete, continued his inaugural season today, at a Gundersen event in Seefeld, Austria.

Myslicki, a Thunder Bay, Ont. native who trains at Calgary's Canada Olympic Park, is searching for ways to gain ground on the cross-country tracks, while his jumping continues to improve. Today's two jump total of 203.0 points from the K90 tower, placed him in 33rd spot to start the cross-country ski event. He ended the day in 42nd place, against the best nordic combined athletes in the world.

Hannu Manninen continued his success from yesterday's Sprint event by winning the gold medal in the longer Gundersen race. His time of 38:00.3 led the podium finishers, including Austria's Felix Gottwald, who came next in second place, 8.8 seconds back of the lead. Third place was claimed by Sebastian Haseney of Germany, 18.1 seconds off the pace.

Canada's Myslicki will travel to Nayoro, Japan, for the next World Cup Gundersen event on January 23, 2004.
