Junior World Championships

Selection Synopsis


Introduction

Athletes selected were required to meet the CCC trip standard in sprint or distance at least one time in the current or previous season as outlined in 4.0 of the selection criteria. The selection committee used some discretion in applying this standard to Phillip Wood who was only .38 points CPL below the standard and demonstrated consistent results in both of the distance trial races.

No junior women were selected under 9.6.b) of the criteria in the sprint event due to the non-competitive nature of the finish in this race.

No U23 women were selected at the trials event as there were no athletes who met the trip standard.

Selection Process

The following athletes are selected to the World U23 and Junior World Championships in accordance with 9.6 of the criteria.

1. 9.6.a: Amanda Ammar and Perianne Jones were pre-selected through qualification to the Tour de Ski.

2. 9.6.b: Race winners in each event, in each of the four categories (U23 men and women; junior men and women) were selected as follows:

– Brittany Webster: Junior women– 5km free, 10km classic
– Georg Jalkotzy: Junior men – 10km free
– Dave Nighbor: U23 men – 10km free, U23 sprint, U23 – 20km classic
– Alex Harvey – Junior men sprint

3. The remaining positions were selected using the ranking lists described in 9.6.c) and considering the trip selection standards (4.0 in the criteria). As per the criteria only the top 5 athletes on the sprint or distance ranking lists are considered for selection.

Junior Women

– Kate Brennan: first overall sprint result and top qualifier in the sprint
– Sara Hewitt: second ranked athlete on the distance points ranking list

Marlis Kromm: was the third ranked athlete on the distance ranking list but was not selected as she did not meet the trip qualifying standard in distance or sprint

– Hannah Perry: fourth ranked athlete on the distance list

Junior Men

– Haakon Lenes: second ranked athlete on the distance points ranking list
– Pate Neumann: fourth ranked athlete on the distance points list

U23 men

– Brent McMurtry: second ranked athlete on the distance points ranking list
– Jesse Heckrodt: third ranked athlete on the distance points ranking list
– Chris Butler: fourth ranked athlete on the distance points ranking list
– Phillip Wood: fifth ranked athlete on the distance points ranking list
