The Olympic spirit was very alive in the 23 clubs that participated across the country. Many teams took advantage of every bonus kilometre possible by introducing new skiers to our sport, and others just skied their hearts out. While all teams were working towards the program set distance goals, several teams from across the country surpassed the highest level and were vying for position in the overall team rankings. Two Sea to Sea to Sea participants require special mention as they skied the entire 8,000km goal distance on their own. Rose and Bob Smyth, from Georgian Nordic Ski and Canoe Club, skied 9,978 and 8,798km, respectively over the 3 year program. Congratulations to all who pushed their limits and skied extra kilometres during the program.
This year five lucky participants were awarded an Olympic prize package for a trip to cheer on Canada at the Olympics in February 2010. Here is a picture of the Sea to Sea to Sea group in Canada House in Whistler where the participants met representatives from both CANADIAN PACIFIC and the Canadian Olympic Cross Country team. The memories from this week will last a lifetime.
A huge thank you to our sponsor CANADIAN PACIFIC who made both this trip and the Sea to Sea to Sea program possible.
Please remember that all kilometres need to be entered online before May 1st . Final prizes, including the Olympic tuques and the individualized handmade commemorative club plaques, will be mailed out to the clubs in May.
I hope everyone enjoyed the program and will use the Sea to Sea to Sea gear in years to come.
See you on the trails!
CANADIAN PACIFIC is a proud sponsor of Cross Country Canada’s Sea to Sea to Sea program and a key partner in helping CCC grow its grass roots participation.
