CCA Fall Workshop Highlights

October 20, 2005 – Here is the information on the upcoming CCA Fall Workshop in Red Deer, Alberta:

Special Workshop Presentations:
This year CCA will be launching new programs and providing opportunities for education and participation at all levels and areas of our sport. Clubs (recreational and competitive) will benefit from this event. We look forward to seeing you October 22nd in Red Deer!

Good Morning
8:30 a.m. Registration and Refreshments
9:00 a.m. Welcome Address – CCA Leadership Director, Charlie Schrama and CCA Chair, Jean Funk.
9:05 a.m. Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Model: Impacts for your club’s programs, events and services.
Keynote Address: Dr. Steve Norris, Director of Strategic Planning and Sport Physiology at the University of Calgary/Canadian Sports Centre and Cross Country Canada Board member will speak on Long Term Athlete Development and The Value of Competition, providing sport administrators and community leaders with critical information relevant to setting up sports programs in our communities.
10:30 a.m. Energy Break
10:45 a.m. Marilyn Buchanan from Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) will highlight what volunteer clubs need to do to comply with OHS standards.
An OHS Workshop will immediately follow Sandra’s presentation, equipping you with tools to implement OHS standards within your club.
11:45 a.m. Overview of CCA New Programs being launched – Korean Exchange, School Ski; Living Outside the Box and GO SKI – Girls on Skis, and an update on the World Cup.
12:00 noon Lunch – Our lunch time topic will be a discussion on CCC and CCA’s plan to stride forward. Put on your thinking caps we need YOUR input on this one!
Lunchtime Launch- Visit our “get busy booths” to learn more about the following Programs: School Ski/Living Outside the Box, GO SKI – Girls on Skis, Korean Exchange and the 2005 Alberta Centennial World Cup. Keeners can apply for School Ski/LOB and GO SKI at the booth! A table will be available for Clubs to display their promotional material.

1:00 p.m. Go Ski Girls!
Keynote Address: Joan Skinstad, Head Coach of Vikings Cross Country Skiing (Augustana Athletics) and Sessional Instructor at the University of Alberta will enlighten us all on Coaching the Female Athlete, a Guide for Leaders. Joan’s vast experience as a National Team athlete and Level IV NCCP Coach places her in an elite knowledge group.
1:30 p.m. The workshop which follows will feature Gail Niinimaa’s presentation: Developing a GO SKI – Girls on Skis Program in your community. You will receive resource materials, information on applying for InMotion grants to support your club program, and application information on the GO SKI – Girls on Skis day program grants for January – June 2006.

1:30 p.m. Connecting with Zone Sports / ASRPWF and AB Lotteries Funding Opportunities
Darrell Joy, Zone Coordinator for ASRPWF will talk about his new role with ASRPWF. The Zone Sport Strategy Program provides a planned approach to meeting the sport needs identified by the participants in each of the eight zones in the province. The program has a regional focus, encouraging groups within the region to work together towards common goals.
2:30 p.m. Energy Break
2:45 p.m. Zone 4 / Data Base Workshop
Join us in this informatory discussion of the in and outs of the Zone 4 Race Management timing system. This user friendly system is an excellent tool for all clubs to have.
In addition, Lee Speed will walk us through the new CCA Club Membership data base.
