February 8 – In a run-away win, David Chamberlain (Fischer/Gould Academy) won the Men's 15km classic race at the Banknorth Eastern Cup at Notchview Reservation. Chamberlain has also won the overall U.S. SuperTour and next week joins the U.S. Ski Team trip to the final 8 World Cup races in Europe.

“I'm healthy this year, and skiing well,” said Chamberlain. I'll be psyched to check out Torino” (Italy, site of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games). Chamberlain was followed by Jon Arne Enevoldsen (coach, Green Mountain Valley School), and local boy, Tom Keefe, UNH graduate now skiing for Berkshire Trails Nordic Club.

The Women's 10km classic event was won by Liz Stephen (Burke Mountain Academy). Stephen, who has already nailed down a spot on the New England Junior Olympic Team, is just back from the USST's Junior Trip to Scandinavia. “I was more relaxed today,” said Stephen. “It was a great trip (to Scandinavia) – now I'm better prepared for skiing internationally.” Pushing Stephen to the win was Middlebury Ski Team's Evelyn Dong, and Dartmouth College's Jean Polfus.

The Banknorth Eastern Cup Series continues with the Silver Fox Trot in Hanover, NH and the Chivers Classic at Vermont Academy, Saxton's River, VT, February 21 and 22.
