“You can hardly ask for more,” said Richard Rokos CU head coach.  “Just short of two weeks before the NCAA Championships, this is a great confidence builder.  It puts everybody in a good comfort zone, but we just can’t sleep on it.  There is no pressure for (CU skiers) qualification, and having such a good cushion, it does provide a comfort zone for going out and skiing fast in both alpine and Nordic tomorrow.”

Utah Director of Skiing Kevin Sweeney was also pleased “We did have a very good opening day here at regionals and I am extremely happy with the efforts. We are struggling with a small amount of illness on the women’s team, however I think we have managed this well. The courses today were in great shape and we were able to really attack.

“It was also really fun to have the Alpine team here cheering on the Nordic squad. We hope to catch Alpine second runs tomorrow after the skate races. Everyone is motivated. There are still some NCAA Championship slots that remain open so tomorrow will be exciting.”
