Nissan National Ski and Snowboard Week

January 14, 2005 – Nissan National Ski and Snowboard Week to be kicked off January 14th in T.O. at Centennial Park Snow Centre

For the first time in a long time, Toronto will be the centre of the ski
universe. On January 14, Centennial Park Snow Centre will host the country’s official launch of Nissan National Ski & Snowboard Week (Jan. 15-23).

The Canadian Ski Council (CSC) established National Ski Week in the 1970’s to GET PEOPLE SKIING!! In the 1980’s, the nationwide event grew to include snowboarding and in the 1990’s, Nissan became a national sponsor of National Ski & Snowboard
Week.

For nine days each winter, Canadians gather at resorts across Canada to revel
in the one thing we’ve all got in common, snow! They say if you can’t beat
’em,
join ’em, and Nissan National Ski and Snowboard Week is the perfect place to
start.

Nissan National Ski & Snowboard Week (NSSW) is one of Canada’s largest winter
celebrations. Over 100 Canadian ski areas from coast to coast participate in
NSSW, from Newfoundland to British Columbia. Ski areas organize events to get
people excited about skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. This
year’s
NSSW theme is Skiing and Snowboarding is for everyone! Get out and Celebrate
Winter!

With rising threats of disease caused by obesity, something that plagues many
Canadians, there is no better time to promote the health benefits of becoming
involved in a recreational activity, even during the cold winter months.
Skiing
and Snowboarding are accessible to all Canadians and are affordable winter
sports.
Equipment and instruction are available at any ski resort across the nation.

At Centennial Park Snow Centre, get out and try skiing and snowboarding! A day
of skiing or snowboarding at Centennial Park or North York Ski Centre won’t
cost
you more than $30, and that’s including a lift ticket, rental equipment and
lesson
from a certified ski or snowboard instructor. Skiing and snowboarding also
allows
families and friends of all ages and ability levels to get outside and enjoy
the winter months together!
Centennial Park Snow Centre and North York Ski Centre both feature day and
night
skiing, and the facilities include a T-bar and a Poma chair lift. North York
Ski Centre features a Chair Lift and Rope Tow. Both ski areas also include a
high-tech ski and snowboard rental shop, with the latest ski and snowboard
equipment,
a snow school, state of the art snowmaking and a snack bar, complete your
experience
for the whole family! Centennial Park Snow Centre was chosen as the venue to
launch Nissan National Ski and Snowboard Week as Toronto Parks and Recreation
will, under a new title, Parks Forestry and Recreation will announce some
great
news about expansion plans for Centennial Park Snow Centre. Phase 1 of the
initiative
will include upgrading the Poma lift to a conveyer and adding a new tube park.
This is great news for the entire ski and snowboard industry as Centennial
Park
Snow Centre and North York Ski Centre attracts 80,000+ visitors to the sports
of skiing and snowboarding each year.
