CXC Marathon Team Shines at the Seeley Hills Classic

release by the CXC Marathon Team

January 19, 2015 (Seeley, WI) – The 23rd annual Seeley Hills Classic was hosted by the Seeley Ski Club at the County 00 Birkie Trailhead on Saturday, January 17. Although snow conditions on the Birkie Trail were thin, the Birkie grooming crew worked diligently to set three classic tracks along 42 kilometers of trail. The weather conditions were ideal for skiers and spectators; as a result, a record number of skiers, 600 plus, were at the starting line for either the 42km or 22km events.

The Seeley Classic, the “unofficial classic championship of the Midwest,” attracts skiers from across the country to the challenging hills of the Birkie Trail. The field of skiers this year featured a very competitive lineup, including Olympians, sponsored teams, and master skiers. The CXC Marathon Team had an impressive day of competition, skiing head to head with Olympians Caitlin Gregg, Tad Elliot, Matt Liebsch, and Brian Gregg.

The Birkie Trail has many long, grueling climbs that challenge the best skiers in the world; yet, from the starting gun to the finish, the CXC Marathon skiers pushed the pace. They worked together throughout the course, and at the finish line posted their most impressive results of the season.

The CXC Marathon Team extends its gratitude to the Seeley Hills Classic race organization, the dedicated volunteers, the American Birkebeiner, and to the CXC Marathon Team sponsors for a great day of racing and a well-organized event.
