December 5, 2003 (Park City, Utah) – John M. Egan, retired founder, chairman and CEO of Arris Group, has been named a trustee of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation, announced Foundation Vice President Trisha Worthington.

Worthington noted Egan's expertise in global communications technology, which she says will be a valuable asset for the future of the Foundation and U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. “We are extremely excited to add John to our list of trustees. His proficiency in the communications industry will be a priceless resource for us,” she said.

ARRIS is a global communications technology company specializing in the design and engineering of broadband local access networks, and is a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of optical transmission, cable telecommunications and internet access. Originally a division of Anixter, the company was separated in 1991, and Egan took the new company, ANTEC Corporation, public in a highly successful offer in 1993 (NASDQ ARRS).

Under Egan's leadership, ANTEC pioneered development of optical products for the cable television industry in 1988 with the introduction its Laser Link line of optical transmitters and receivers, which were co-developed with technology partner AT&T. For his role in advancing cable television, Egan was honored in 1990 with the National Cable Television Association's coveted Vanguard Award.

The company now provides cutting-edge technology for Internet access, high-speed data and cable telephone over hybrid fiber coaxial systems. Egan then entered into a joint venture (Arris Interactive) with Nortel Networks. In 2001, ANTEC purchased Arris Interactive and changed its name to ARRIS. With the acquisition of Cadant in 2001, ARRIS became the only company able to provide CableLabs DOCSIS 1.1 qualified CMTS and certified high-speed data and IP telephony solutions. In addition to his role as chairman of ARRIS, Egan served on the board of the national cable industry organizations.

Egan retired in 2001, and currently serves on the advisory board of KB Partners, a Chicago-based venture capital firm, and on several start-up boards in the technology area. Prior to joining Anixter in 1973, Egan was a marketing executive with RCA Computer Systems Division. In 1980, he was appointed president of Anixter Communications, and by 1988, Anixter revenues exceeded $1 billion serving the local network, telephone and cable TV markets.

Egan is a graduate of Boston College with a BS degree in economics. He and his wife, Lynn, have two children, John Jr. and Chris, and four grandchildren. He splits his time between Beaver Creek, CO, and Clearwater Beach, FL, and is an avid skier and golfer. Prior to his business career, Egan played professional football with the Miami Dolphins.

The Foundation was incorporated in 1964 as the 501(c)3 organization to raise money to support year-round athlete training, development, competition and educational needs. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams receive no federal funding or subsidy moneys and operate solely through private donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.
