January 21, 2014 – With the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games less than three weeks away, hundreds of thousands of tickets to events remain unsold, reports the Associated Press.
Reasons for the apparent lack of interest in the Games include terrorist threats, pricey travel and hotels, shortage of tourist attractions in the area, and the difficulty of getting travel visas – all of which are keeping foreign visitors away.
Sochi Games organizers refuse to be discouraged, however, stating that they expect strong last-minute ticket sales. Officials have been tight-lipped about ticket sales numbers, but the Associated Press has seen IOC marketing documents that suggest around 300,000 tickets are still up-for-grabs.
