June 09, 2014 (Barcelona, Spain) – Meeting on Thursday, 5th June, in Barcelona (SPA), the FIS Council confirmed the calendar for the FIS Cross-Country World Cup presented by Viessmann for the 2014/15 season. The coming winter will feature many highlights including the ninth edition of the FIS Tour de Ski and FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun (SWE).

Three-day Tour moves to Lillehammer

Traditionally, the world’s best Cross-Country skiers begin their quest for the crystal globes in Ruka (FIN) on the last weekend of November. This season the opening of the Tour will take place on the second weekend of competition in Lillehammer (NOR). The traditional competition format will remain featuring a sprint in free technique, individual free technique competition and the pursuit in classical technique on Sunday.

Leaving Scandinavia behind, the FIS Cross-Country World Cup will then move to Central Europe where Davos (SUI) will host middle 15/30 km F individual start competitions.

The French venue of La Clusaz is back on the World Cup calendar after a two-year hiatus with a Skiathlon and a relay competition heading into the Christmas break.

9th edition of the FIS Tour de Ski

Seven competitions in nine days are scheduled for the 9th edition of the FIS Tour de Ski. The Tour will get under way on 3rd January in Oberstdorf (GER) with the traditional prologue starting everything off. As a second stage, a classical technique pursuit will be held. After Oberstdorf the Tour is going back to the home of Dario Cologna in Val Müstair for a sprint F. Following the stop in Switzerland, the Tour will move onto Cortina – Toblach (ITA) on 7th and 8th January with distance competitions and the A to B stage from Cortina to Toblach. The FIS Tour de Ski will conclude in Val di Fiemme (ITA) as has become tradition with a mass start competition on 10th and the Final Climb on 11th January.

Otepää and Rybinsk back in the calendar, premiere for Östersund (SWE)

The first weekend after the FIS Tour de Ski is traditionally reserved for sprint specialists and the FIS Cross-Country World Cup will return after three years to Otepää (EST). Rybinsk in Russia returns on the competition schedule the following week with three competitions held from Friday to Sunday 22nd – 25th January 2015.

From 14th – 15th February Östersund will be the last World Cup test before FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun (SWE), which is taking place from 18th – 1st March 2015.

Junior and U23 athletes will compete in their season highlight in Almaty (KAZ) in the first week of February 2015

No World Cup Final

The season will conclude in Scandinavia with the well-established program featuring Lahti, Drammen and Oslo hosting the traditional 30 km ladies and 50 km men in free technique.
