FIS Publishes Anti-doping Update

release by FIS
November 26, 2009 – FIS has published an update on its FIS Anti-Doping Activities during the 2009/10 Olympic season. “The Olympic season will see FIS continuing its fight against the use of doping. We will do this with all our means and across all disciplines. The recent cases are a good example that our programs and procedures are effective,” commented FIS President Gian Franco Kasper.

FIS FACT SHEET: FIS Anti-Doping Program.

Reflecting on the recent four cases involving Russian athletes, President Kasper noted: “We are not happy with the situation in Russia. Changes are required within the Russian (ski) federation. The establishment of the new national anti-doping agency RUSADA is a good step but its results cannot yet be seen. A lot more has to be done, especially out of competition in the provinces. Controls must be very severe and strict. I do not believe there is a system behind everything, but since most of the athletes have been found to be using the same substances, something is wrong.”
