FIS Roller Skiing World Cup – Sundin and Svanebo in Charge

July 29, 2012 (Germany) – FIS Roller Skiing World Cup made another stop last weekend in Germany at Bad Peterstal. Three competitions were on the schedule, two distance uphill races and a sprint.

On Friday ladies fought for victory in the 7 km uphill classic. Long distance specialist Sandra Hansson of Sweden won ahead of compatriot Marika Sundin and Maria Kozekaeva of Russia.

On the men’s side Italy’s Sergio Bonaldi edged out Marcus Johansson by 5 seconds and Anton Lindblad (both SWE).

On Saturday the competition program continued with a free technique sprint. Anastasia Voronina led Russia to double victory as Elena Ektova claimed second place. Marika Sundin showed sprinting skills and landed in third place.

Among men Italy celebrated another victory as Emunuele Sbabo was the fastest sprinter. Evgeniy Abdurakhmanov finished second and Edoardo Folco Pizzutto (ITA) grabbed third place.

FIS Roller Skiing World Cup in Bad Peterstal concluded on Sunday with the second distance competition, 11 km free uphill. Hanna Seppas of Sweden won with a clear margin of more than a minute on Marika Sundin who finished on the podium in all three competitions. Svetlana Hvostunkova (RUS) completed the podium.

In the men’s competition Simone Paredi (ITA) claimed the first victory of the season as he beat by thre seconds Sweden’s Anders Svanebo and Eugenio Bianchi (ITA).

Marika Sundin and Anders Svanebo lead the FIS Roller Skiing World Cup

After eight out of fourteen competitions of the World Cup season Marika Sundin (SWE) is in the Overall World Cup lead with 500 pts. Ksenia Konohova (RUS) is second with 444 pts and Elena Rodina sits in third place with 397 pts.

Also on the men’s side Sweden holds the current lead as Anders Svanebo has collected 471 pts. Simone Paredi occupies second place with 373 pts and Sergio Bonaldi (both ITA) holds third position with 339.

FIS Roller Skiing World Cup continues in Tripoli (GRE) on August 24th – 26th.
