FIS XC World Cup #2 Kuusamo Sprints – Newell 11th, Kuhn 15th

November 29, 2008 (Kuusamo, Finland) – USA’s Andy Newell finished 11th after qualifying 8th in the men’s 1.2km sprint at the FIS XC World Cup #2 in Kuusamo on Saturday won by Norway’s Ola Vigen Hattestad. Canada’s Stefan Kuhn had a great day sprinting to his best-ever World Cup result placing 15th after qualifying 24th. Fellow Canuck Devon Kershaw qualified 27th but was disqualified in the heats that followed. The USA’s Torin Koos qualified in 36th and Chris Cook was 67th. Only the top 30 qualifiers advance.

Slovenia’s Petra Majdic won the women’s 1.2km sprint over Sweden’s Lina Andersson in 2nd with Justyna Kowalczyk (Pol) in 3rd. USA’s Kikkan Randall was 33rd in the qualifications and did not advance while Canada’s Perianne Jones was disqualified.
