Fischer Signs Cristian Zorzi

April 25, 2007 – Following a final equipment test in Filzmoos, Austria, Cristian Zorzi (ITA) has signed a 3-year contract with Fischer, the No. 1 Nordic ski manufacturer, based in Austria.

Italian sporting history
The 35-year-old Italian, whose striking appearance has earned him the name “Zorro”, was and still is one of the most successful cross country skiers of his country. At the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City 2002 he was a member of the silver-winning relay team and also took the bronze medal in the sprint. As the final man on the extremely popular gold-winning relay team at the Olympic Games in Turin (ITA) in 2006 he once again went down in sporting history, only to go on to win the World Championship title in the team sprint in Sapporo (JPN) last winter.

New equipment for a new future
His biggest goal is now the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver where he will be competing with new equipment. “I’d like to have another three successful years and for that I need top gear in every respect. I was convinced by the performance of the Fischer skis from the very beginning. The Carbonlite skis in particular – both classic and skating – are great to work with. The skis are so light, you can really conserve effort and energy. I’m already looking forward to making my presence felt with the new equipment and new motivation in the upcoming season.

Delighted with new signing
Gerhard Urain, Nordic Race Director at Fischer, is delighted with the new addition to the Fischer cross country team: “Cristian is a very important athlete for us. In recent years he has been one of the best sprinters in the World Cup and also showed at the World Championships this year that he is a top skier. Plus he handles the balancing act between sprint and distance events very well. Having said that, it is not just his sporting achievements that make him of such interest. He is also a sportsman who has charisma, one that is very popular with the media and has an uplifting presence. We are delighted to have such an exceptional athlete on our team.”
