Fontana’s Nordic Days Sale and Clinic with CXC Elite Team

October 28, 2008 (Hayward, WI) – Olympic hopefuls will be helping skiers at all levels to learn to perfect their skating technique. They will also assistance in fitting skis, boots, bindings, poles and questions answered regarding training equipment and wax. All activities will take place at Fontana Sports in Madison, Wisconsin on November 1-2. “We are very excited about this opportunity to share our experience and knowledge in teaching technique and on ski and boot fitting. CXC Elite Team athletes will help anyone in selection and fitting equipment as they do for themselves. Fontana Sports is an active supporter of CXC and the Madison Nordic community and we are honored to support them as well,” commented Yuriy Gusev, CXC Executive and Athletic Director.

CXC Elite Team athletes will also help select ski poles and other training gear such as glasses, heart rate monitors and wax. “CXC Elite Team has been winning on Salomon (Skis, Boots and Bindings) since the team’s inception two years ago. These champion athletes have great knowledge about the sport of cross-country skiing and about selecting cross-country ski equipment. As Salomon ambassadors, they will be on hand at Fontana Sports during this busy sales event to help answer any Cross-Country Skiing and Salomon equipment questions,” said Andy Gerlach of Salomon Nordic.

CXC Elite Team is one of the premier cross country ski teams in the US. CXC won the 2007 USSA Club of the Year Award. Kristina Owen and Heather Zimmerman will represent the CXC Elite Team in Madison. Kristina Owen is one of the top female skiers in the country, finishing in 5th and 6th places at the 2008 US Distance National Championships and 8th place at the 2008 American Birkebeiner. Heather Zimmerman is a 2008 college graduate, a recent addition CXC Elite Team and a very talented skier. Kristina Owen has been proudly “adopted” through the CXC Adopt An Athlete program by Don Becker, Becker Law Office SC, Madison, WI. CXC developed the Adopt an Athlete program to provide financial program assistance for CXC Elite Team athletes. This financial aid is a key to the continuation of sport excellence and assists today’s motivated and talented athletes in their journey to become tomorrow’s leaders.

Schedule:
Saturday, November 1
9am to 11am – Woman’s Clinic (attendance fee is $30 per person plus
$20 for video analyses)
1pm to 4pm – Salomon Ski & Boot Fitting Workshop at Fontana Sports
(west side location)

Sunday, November 2
9am to 11am – Co-Ed Clinic (attendance fee is $30 per person plus $20
for video analyses)
1pm to 4pm – Salomon Ski & Boot Fitting Workshop at Fontana Sports
(west side location)

Both clinics will be held at the Badger Prairie Park (upper parking lot).

Clinic fees go directly to the athletes to help them cover their day-to-day expenses.

John B. Hutchinson, president of Fontana Sports commented, “Fontana Sports is pleased to team up with Yuri Gusev, Salomon and CXC Elite Team athletes to show our continued support for Nordic skiing. People of all ages and abilities, from racers to novice are invited to view the new equipment for 2009 as well as the great blow out deals on last year’s products. We will also have specials on poles, waxes and Nordic accessories only on the weekend of November 1 – 2 at our West location, 7948 Tree Lane, Madison. We are a local shop and have supported the MadNorSki ski club since it’s beginning. Please come visit and see what we have in store for 2009.”

Local skiers will have an opportunity to select their skis by using the new Solomon 3D Ski Flex Mat exclusively provided to Fontana Sports for the weekend. Local Nordic enthusiasts also can bring in their own skate skis to test their fit and classic skis to test and determine kick wax pockets for different wax conditions. Newly purchased skis at Fontana Sports during the weekend will be tested free of charge. Other skis can be tested for $25 per pair.
