Freeman’s LillyforLife

by Sam Laskaris

U.S. cross-country skier Kris Freeman will be traveling across the country this year promoting an important message-that people with diabetes can, with proper care, have full, active lifestyles. The 22-year-old native of Andover, N.H., a three-time national champion, is proof of that. He's continued his athletic career despite being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in September 2000.

Last year, Freeman became a spokesperson for Eli Lilly and Company, the firm that produces the insulin he takes. The company also sponsors two awards: the LillyforLife Award, presented to those who have taken insulin for 50+ years, and the LillyforLife Achievement Award, given to diabetics who have accomplished an outstanding feat.-
