Hardwood Ski and Bike Re-Opens w/20cm of New Snow – Only 1-hr From TO + Reduced Trail Fees

release by Hardwood Ski and Bike

December 22, 2012 (Barrie, ON) – The snow has returned and we have had over 20cm of snow overnight and now have 14km of cross-country and 11km of snowshoe trails open.   The weather forecast is calling for more cold temperatures and snow flurries over the next few days.

On our trails we have good coverage however they may be some rocks hiding under the snow so we would recommend people use older skis until the snow depth increases.

We are charging a reduced trail fee of $15 + HST until we get more trails open and groomed.

Hardwood is open 8 am to 5 pm during the holidays and closed for Christmas.

We continue to look at ways to improve our customer experience and here are a few items that are new this season:
– There is a new routing of the Nagano trail that will bypass Terminator hill and add about 1/2 km to the length of the trail. This makes it more enjoyable for beginners.
– There will also be enhanced “You are here” signage to help skiers to find their way around the trails.
– In the rental shop we will have all new skate rental equipment and much of our classic rental fleet has been replaced.
– We will be allowing Fat Tire Bikes to ride on our trails in the evenings during the week once we are open for night skiing. This is the newest craze in bike riding and we have had numerous requests to allow these bikes on the trails this winter.
– The Fischer Loppet on February 23rd will have a new, shortened course. This year the race will be 15 km and 30 km long and will be fun for every level of skier.
– We will be holding our first Ontario Cup XC ski race since 2005 on the weekend of March 2-3. 250 of the best skiers in the province will be here to race that weekend.
