Harvey Strong 7th as Johaug and Niskanen Take Ruka 10/15km CL Victories – Kershaw 14th, Sadie Bjornsen 17th

November 30, 2014 (Kuusamo, Finland) – Canada’s Alex Harvey continued his strong start to the season claiming 7th in the men’s 15km CL while teammate Devon Kershaw was solid in 14th as Iivo Niskanen (Fin) secured his first World Cup victory at home. Martin Johnsrud Sundby (Nor) was 10.3s behind in second as local fans were treated to another Finn, Sami Jauhojaervi, on the podium in third. According FIS it marks the first time that a male skier from Finland has ever won in Ruka in the 19 competitions that have been held there.

Rounding out the North Americans were the USA’s Erik Bjornsen in 52nd, followed by Ivan Babikov (Can) in 57th, Simi Hamilton (USA) in 69th, Graeme Killick (Can) 71st, Reese Hanneman (USA) in 82nd, Andrew Newell (USA) in 83rd, and Noah Hoffman (USA) who did not finish.

In the women’s 10km CL Therese Johaug dominated the field with a stunning 42.2s gap over her teammate Marit Bjoergen with Sweden’s Charlotte Kalla taking home a solid third as classic queen Justyna Kowalczyk blew up near the end finishing 4th.

American Sadie Bjornsen put in a good day at the office as the top NA skier 17th while Canada’s Emily Nishikawa found herself racing with Kowalczyk and paced herself well to finish 38th overall. Following in 39th was Jessie Diggins (USA), Ida Sargent (USA) in 51st, Liz Stephen (USA) in 55th and Kikkan Randall (USA) in 57th.
