Haywood NorAm in Quebec Cancelled

release by CCC

November 22, 2008 (Quebec City, QC) РDue to an unusually dry November the opening races of the 2008-09 Haywood NorAm Series scheduled for For̻t Montmorency on Nov. 29-30 have been cancelled. Athletes who included their email address on the race entry will be contacted directly.

“There was snow and skiing at the beginning of November on the trails but warm weather and 36 hours of rain cleaned us out,” explained Renee Thibeault, the disappointed Chief of Competition during a conference call with the Jury. “There is a small section of trail with a snow/ice mixture but it would take at least 30 – 40 cm of snow to cover the race trail. I’m sure athletes will resume training at Forêt in the near future,” continued Thibeault.

Athletes in the Quebec City region are encouraged to review the facilities web site here to determine up to date trail conditions.

Meanwhile in parts of southern Ontario resort operators are having a difficult time keeping up with grooming after getting repeatedly blasted by mother nature over the past week. Both Highlands Nordic, just south of Collingwood and Hardwood Hills Ski and Bike, just west of Barrie are reporting mid-winter conditions. Highlands Nordic will be the site of the last Haywood NorAm of 2008 as they host on December 20-21.

The western swing of the Haywood NorAm Series is scheduled to get underway on December 6, 2008 with Teck Sprints at Sovereign Lake Nordic in Vernon, BC.
