Haywood Report: That’s All She Wrote!

provided by Drew Goldsack

April 4, 2006 – Another great season has finally come to a close. With the last race of the Western Canadian Championships in Whitehorse, Yukon my season was officially over. It was finally time to hang up the race skis and do some serious resting. Chris Jeffries and I even had a chance (due to a nasty chest infection which prevented us from racing) to live life on the ‘other’ side of racing by volunteering at the Sharkfest races that my ski club hosts every year. It’s always a great event and volunteering at it really reminded me how much work went on behind the scenes at the many races I competed in this year. Thanks so much to all the volunteers who make racing in Canada and around the world possible.

I have to say that I’m not one of those people who make it a point to get in as much cross country skiing as possible before the snow melts. In fact, I have only been out for a cross-country ski once since returning from Whitehorse. That’s not to say that I’ve been vegging on the couch! Instead my activities are centered around recreation for the next month and to be honest, a chair lift. This is the time of year that I throw the heart rate monitor in a drawer and just have fun being active. I’ve been out there chasing Kershaw around in the backcountry, riding the lifts with George and even hucking in the terrain park with Crooks! It’s great to be out there and reflect on the season with friends and teammates. As well, it’s nice not worrying about training zones or keeping track of how many hours you’ve spent training. I’ve even had a chance to get out and play some squash….If you think you’re in good shape, play a competitive game of squash. I was so stiff the next day I could hardly walk

The team had an incredible season this year and the momentum going into the next season will be huge! Thanks so much to the sponsors and other supporters of the team. Much of our success this season is directly thanks to you. Your support has really paid off and I’m already looking forward to starting yet another outstanding year with the National Ski Team!
