November 26, 2006 – High winds, which forced cancellation of a ski jumping event the night before, and rain forced officials Sunday to cancel a nordic combined sprint World Cup.
“I don’t know if they were the same winds because they were from a different direction,” Head Coach Lasse Ottesen said, “but we could see early on this wasn’t happening. We never got to take the trial round [of jumping] and then, after a delay, everything was canceled.”
The next combined competitions are scheduled in Lillehammer, Norway – where Ottesen won a silver medal in Olympic jumping in 1994 for Norway – after being moved from Trondheim because of poor snow conditions. Ottesen said officials were considering moving the sprint to Lillehammer but a final decision would not be made for a day or two.
