Holy Cow Nordic Loppet Returns to Sun Peaks Resort – Feb. 27

February 10, 2016 (Sun Peaks Resort, BC) – This fun and unique Loppet returns for another winter! New last year was our 2km and 5km courses on the valley trails, for our younger and beginner skiers. The longer 12km and 24km courses start from the Top of the Morrisey Express chairlift – the 12km course is the direct route down to the finish, with the 24km course going back up to McGillivray Lake for another 12km on our scenic trails.

The 2km, 5km, and 12km courses are free technique where skaters and classic technique will compete with combined times. The 24km course is for either skate or classic skiers, with separate timing for both techniques.

Starting Time & Location
11:00am start from the top of the Morrisey Express chairlift for the 24km, followed by an 11:05 am start for the 12km course. The 2km and 5km courses will start at the west end of P5 near the Nordic Centre at 11:05am.

Course Descriptions

2km Course: Start at the west end of P5, along McGillivray Lake Trail, right at next junction with Cotton Tail, ski along Cotton Tail, stay right at next junction coming up to the Umbrella cafe, continue along to the finish at the Nordic Centre.

5km Course: Start at the west end of P5, along McGillivray Lake Trail, left at next junction with Cotton Tail, stay left at next junction (Lap Point) continuing on McGillivray Lake Trail, right at next junction with Whiskey Jack staying on McGillivray Lake Trail, at next junction right onto Vista, an next junction right onto Cotton Tail, right at Cotton Tail/Vista junction, along Cotton Tail to next junction (Lap Point), ski the McGillivray Lake Trail/Vista/Cotton Tail Loop a second time back to Lap Point.  At Lap Point follow Cotton Tail to finish at Nordic Centre.

12km Course: Start at the top of the Morrisey Chair, Holy Cow to Pony Loop, to Holy Cow, to Great Grey, to Vista ( hard left), to Cotton Tail to Finish at Nordic Centre.

24km Course: First lap is the same as the 12 km course.  From the Lap point at Nordic Centre up to P5 (Aid Station), along McGillivray Lake Trail, to Cotton Tail, (caution here, as you may enounter two way traffic) continue along McGillivray Lake trail, up to Upper Blue Grouse junction and left turn, down to junction with Nut Hatch (caution here), up Nut Hatch, down Raven Ramble to McGillivray Lake Trail, left turn, to cabin and turn around point (Aid Station here). Return on McGillivray Lake Trail, left on Otter, left on Great Grey, down Great Grey to a HARD Left on Vista, right onto Cotton Tail, to Finish at Nordic Centre. Aid Station at P5 and McGillivary Lake.

Age Categories
5 and under, 6-9, 10-13, 14-17, and 18+ for the 2km and 5km courses, 14-17 (12km only) and 18-45, 46-59, 60+ for the 24km course. Male and female in each.

Registration
Online registration is now open at Zone4.ca

Bib pick-up and waiver signing will be at the Sun Peaks Nordic Centre from 8:00am to 10:00am on February 27, 2016.

Post Race Social
A post-loppet social will be held at the Morrisey Pub M-Room at 2:30pm.  Awards will be presented at 3:00pm on the upper plaza stage with tons fantastic draw prizes!!
