November 28, 2012 (Ostersund, Sweden) – Canada’s Scott Perras was the top North American in 32nd with two penalties in the men’s individual 20km on Wednesday as round 1 of the E.ON IBU World Cup continued in Ostersund, Sweden. Following Perras in 33rd was Team USA’s Tim Burke from Paul Smiths, NY, with three penalties and rifle jam that cost him at least 10 seconds to clear.

Last year’s overall World Cup champ, Martin Fourcade (FRA), continued his onslaught suffering one penalty on his way to victory in 50:44.7. Austria’s Dominik Landertinger was second also w/one penalty while Erik Lesser (GER) shot clean to score his first career podium in third.

The USA’s Lowell Bailey was just eight seconds behind Burke, finishing 37th also with three penalties; Canada’s Nathan Smith was 55th while fellow Canuck Jean Philippe Leguellec was 62nd. American Jay Hakkinen was tied for 63 with Leif Nordgren ending up 75th and Russell Currier was 89th.
