August 26, 2014 (Bonn, Germany) – IPC Nordic Skiing have today announced the 2014-15 season calendar, which features four World Cups, including the first ever in South Korea, and the 2015 IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships.

The World Cup season, which follows on from the most successful Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, is set to begin from 10-17 December in Vuokatti, Finland, a favourite destination on the para-Nordic skiing circuit, where athletes will compete in cross-country and biathlon races.

Then, between 22 January and 1 February, the 2015 IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships will take place in Cable, Wisconsin, USA.

Days later, between 4-11 February, the circuit will move to PyeongChang, South Korea, the host city of the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games for the first ever World Cup there.

Cross country races will then be staged at a World Cup in Hokkaido, Japan, from 13-18 February.

Rounding off the calendar is a return to Europe, to Surnadal, Norway, for biathlon and cross-country World Cup Finals from 16-22 March.

In 2013-14, the Russian trio of Roman Petushkov, Rushan Minnegulov and Stanislav Chokhlaev dominated the men’s cross-country World Cup in sitting, standing and visually impaired classifications.

World champion Petushkov went on to sweep five individual golds at Sochi 2014 across biathlon and cross-country and was part of the winning relay team which also included Minnegulov. He also won the overall men’s sitting biathlon World Cup crown.

A stunning performance in the standing class in both biathlon and cross-country saw Russian Alena Kaufman collect the women’s standing World Cups in each discipline ahead of claiming two individual Paralympic titles in biathlon.

Kaufman’s triple Sochi 2014 gold medallist teammate Elena Remizova cleaned up in the women’s cross-country visually impaired World Cup.

The sitting title was won by Norway’s Mariann Marthinsen before winning sprint gold at Sochi.

Russian teammates Azat Karachurin and Nikolay Polukhin won the men’s standing and visually impaired overall biathlon World Cup titles respectively, before a successful home Paralympic Winter Games which included one individual gold medal apiece.

The women’s biathlon cup saw a Russian double with Svetlana Konovalova just edge to victory in the women’s sitting and five-time World Champion Mikhalina Lysova, 22, grab the visually impaired globe.

The 2015 IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships will take place in Cable, Wisconsin, USA, and will feature around 150 athletes from 20 countries for the biggest gathering of skiers since Sochi 2014.
