It is the world’s most spectacular and unifying event, and in less than four years the eyes of the world will be focused on British Columbia and Canada as we celebrate the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. We are currently looking for a:

Manager, Biathlon

General Accountability Oversee the planning and delivery of the Biathlon sports requirements for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and all required Test and Training events; coordinate the preparations and operations of the Olympic and Paralympic Biathlon shooting range and related activities; manage the Biathlon stadium, range and facilities during pre-Games operations. Titles may be adjusted from time to time to accurately reflect responsibilities.

The expected start date for this position is February 2007.

Responsibilities – Manage and/or facilitate the sport technical input for the Olympic and post-Olympic Biathlon event and venue design and planning, in conjunction with the International Biathlon Union (IBU), Biathlon Canada (BC) and VANOC’s Venue Overlay department – Coordinate the setup, preparations and operations of the 2010 Olympic and Biathlon activities for all pre-Games and Games events, in conjunction with other venue sport managers and with VANOC’s Venue Management department; coordinate the setup, preparations and operations of the 2010 Paralympic Biathlon range activities for all pre-Games and Games events – Manage the planning and delivery of the Biathlon equipment requirements for the pre-Games Operations and the Olympic and Paralympic Games – Develop detailed Biathlon operational plans and budgets for pre-Olympic/Paralympic and Olympic/Paralympic competition and training activities and projects – Oversee the planning and delivery of all required Test and Training events for Biathlon and coordinate all event requirements; manage the development of a local event organizing committee based in the Sea-To-Sky community – Recruit and manage the Biathlon specific VANOC work force, including the Olympic/Paralympic Competition Committee and the sport technical volunteers. Together with Biathlon Canada further develop or expand the National Biathlon Officials’ manuals. Help organize and teach at National and local Officials’ Biathlon CCC training seminars – Work in conjunction with other VANOC departments regarding the detailed planning of the Games time Operations for the Olympic/Paralympic Nordic Venue – Work in conjunction with Own The Podium (OTP) and Biathlon Canada to maximize the legacy for Biathlon at the venue and to develop a home-field advantage for the Canadian team – Other duties may be assigned as required

Qualifications

Education/Experience – A diploma, certificate or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and/or a strong background in coaching, event or Biathlon sport management – Specific sport background and high-level experience as a Biathlon event organizer, Biathlon venue manager/operator, athlete or coach – Previous experience in the planning, organization and execution of a Winter Olympics/Paralympics, IBU World Championship, or IBU World Cup – Recognized by the IBU and Biathlon Canada as someone with significant background in international Biathlon events – Attended previous Winter Olympic/Paralympic Games or Biathlon World Championship in an official delegation or position – Previous experience working in a fast-paced, multi-level, project based environment with emphasis on timelines and delivery an asset
