Coaching Development Coordinator – Cross Country Canada

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic team that is totally committed to achieving international excellence – fulfilling dreams, creating heroes and inspiring national pride.Cross Country Canada (CCC), the National Sport Organization for cross-country skiing in Canada, is currently seeking to fill the position of Coaching Development Coordinator (CDC). The CDC is a full-time position that will be located in Canmore, Alberta at Cross Country Canada’s head office at the Bill Warren Training Centre.

General Responsibilities. This Coordinator position is designed to support CCC’s coaching development system up to the international level. Coaching development is fundamental to CCC’s ability to improve the capacity and productivity of the various components of the sport system that facilitate athlete development.

A successful candidate should possess:
* a solid understanding of CCC’s Long Term Athlete Development Guide (Cross-Country skiing – A Sport for Life);
* NCCP training in cross-country skiing (must have – new system preferred);
* current NCCP (new system) Learning Facilitator training in cross-country skiing (preferred)
* the ability to prioritize tasks and achieve high standards and timeliness of all work products;
* polished communication in written and oral form in English (essential) and French (highly desirable);
* all standard Microsoft office software understanding and have website content management skills;

The starting salary for this position ranges between $36,000 and $42,000, plus benefits, depending on qualifications and experience. Deadline to receive applications and references is September 15th, 2008.

Job Description: Cross Country Canada – Coaching Development Coordinator

1. Position Title. Coaching Development Coordinator (CDC).

2. Reporting Structure. The CDC is responsible and accountable directly to the Director of Coach and Athlete Development (DCAD). In addition, the CDC provides staff support and is responsive to the Chairperson of the Coach and Athlete Development (CAD) Committee.

3. General Scope of Responsibilities. The CDC is responsible for administrative support for CCC’s coaching development system. The primary focus of this position will be the delivery of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).

4. Specific Responsibilities. The specific responsibilities of the CDC shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

1. Coach Development. Supporting the CAD Committee, its relevant sub-committees, and project teams in developing and delivering programs. Specific duties include:

1) support the development and delivery of the new competency-based NCCP (ICC, CC, LTT Dryland, LTT On Snow, TTT Dryland, TTT On Snow, CCD, CCHP, etc):
a. participant materials (Workbook & Reference Materials);
b. Learning Facilitator materials (Facilitator’s Guide, multi-media aids) and training opportunities;
c. collect, process, and file registration forms as appropriate;
d. follow up on requests to assist with missing certification records,
e. process applications for equivalency;
f. ensure the (cross country skiing) coaching fields on the CAC databank are correct;
g. distribute order forms, fill orders, ship materials, etc;

2) support the delivery of the former NCCP system (Levels 2, 3, 4/5):
a. NCCP Level 3 program – process registration forms, coordinate evaluation/marking of Assignments, , keep accurate records;
b. NCCP Level 4/5 program – support sport specific and generic courses as appropriate, facilitate sport specific practical assignments/tasks including the evaluation process, process paper work, process registration forms, keep accurate records;
c. maintain an appropriate supply of materials, fill orders and ship materials;

3) support the development and delivery of High Performance Coaching Development Programs (ICE, Petro Canada Scholarship, NCI, etc):
a. ICE program – implement as per policy document; advertise, coordinate the selection process, distribute and process ICE Assignment packages, post-Assignment follow-up, etc;
b. Petro Canada Scholarship program – advertise, coordinate selection process, coordinate program experiences, process paper work, etc;
c. NCI program – promote, facilitate sport specific training opportunities, process paper work, etc;
d. assist with the scheduling and coordination of sport specific National High Performance Coaching Seminars, and other special coaching development courses as necessary;

4) assist project teams with the development of publications:
a. assist with gathering resource information, artwork, photos;
b. proof documents;
c. coordinate arrangements with the publisher and track deliveries;

5) support program financial management:
a. assist with grant applications and reports as needed (CAC grants, etc.);
b. manage budgets for specific projects within area of responsibility;
c. cross check orders and invoices for both clients (Divisions) and suppliers;

6) provide inventory control of coach development materials:
a. manage stock in inventory (course materials, clothing, teaching aids, etc);
b. provide periodic audits of materials and supplies within area of responsibility, including March 31 audit annually;
c. re-order materials as appropriate;
d. maintain master binders of all major resource manuals/documents that are published including a CD-ROM copy;
e. maintain a comprehensive photo library of coaches in action;

7) support the maintenance of program area content on CCC’s web site;

8) provide program data for CAD reports;

9) promote the CAC/CCC Coaches Code of Conduct;

10) maintain up to date contact lists (master list of active LFs, Division Coaching Coordinators, etc.).
a. Club Development. Supporting the CAD Committee and its relevant sub-committees in promoting the establishment of full service clubs that can provide a progression of coach development opportunities up to the National Ski Team level. Specific duties include:

1) promote and encourage the development of effective full service cross-country ski clubs with paid coaching positions (full or part-time);
2) promote and encourage the vertical and horizontal integration of coach and athlete development at all stages of the CCC Long Term Athlete Development model;
3) promote and encourage club financial support for professional development opportunities for active club coaches at all levels.
5. General Expectations. The CDC is expected to:
1. prioritize tasks and strive to achieve high standards in terms of quality and timeliness of all work products;
2. contribute to the creation and projection of a CCC image characterized by inclusiveness, integrity, reliability, respect, courtesy, openness and commitment to excellence;
3. promote CCC’s Coaching Development Program philosophy, programs, and materials; and
4. establish strong and productive relationships with the Divisions, thereby improving communication and enhancing credibility and effectiveness.
