Job Opportunity – 2011 Canada Winter Games

November 23, 2007 – The 2011 Canada Winter Games, Canada’s premier multi-sport event, will be hosted in Halifax Regional Municipality and surrounding area in February 2011. Over 3600 athletes, coaches and managers will compete in 22 sports during an 18 day period.

The Halifax 2011 Canada Winter Games Host Society have immediate opportunities for qualified and dynamic individuals. Senior staff positions for the Games will prove very challenging, diverse, exciting and rewarding. Senior Manager – Operations

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this position is pivotal to the development and execution of the Game plan in the areas of Athlete Services, Sport, Venues and Logistics. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Sport Technical, Mission Services, Sport Results, Sport Schedule, Sport Equipment, Officials Coordination, Athletes’ Village, Medical Services, Venue Management, Fit Out, Disabled Integration, Green Plan, Spectator Services, Transportation, Security, Warehousing, and Cartage.

The ideal candidate will have graduated from a recognized post secondary institution in a related field and have five (5) years of related experience. Knowledge and experience with national sport governing bodies, logistic systems, and multi-sport events should be demonstrated.

Senior Manager – Workforce and Volunteers

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this key position is responsible for developing and managing a “People Plan” for the organization. This includes, but is not limited to: Human Resource/Staffing responsibilities of about 100 people; Volunteer Plan that includes recruitment, training, accreditation and recognition of 5,000 volunteers.

The ideal candidate will have graduated from a recognized post secondary institution with major course work in human resource management, organizational behavior or related field and have five (5) years of related experience.

Senior Manager – Marketing and Sponsorship

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this creative and experienced sales manager will be responsible for developing a creative marketing plan by developing a comprehensive multi-media kit of parts to market the Games locally, regionally and nationally. Advertising plans, branding strategies, broadcast contracts, merchandising, ticketing, logos, mascots and torch relays are but just a few of the details to be covered in the next 4 years.

The preferred candidate will also develop and manage a multi-million dollar sponsorship sales program that includes a comprehensive benefits and recognition package, tailored to Games Sponsors.

The ideal candidate will have graduated from a recognized post secondary institution with a degree in Business Administration with specific study concentration in marketing. Five (5) years of experience with advertising, public relations, successful fundraising campaigns and sponsorship solicitation is required.

Senior Manager – Administration, Finance and Information Technology

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this is the senior financial administrator and project manager for the Games. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, in concert with senior management and volunteers, a multi million dollar budget and procurement plan. The Senior Manager is responsible for financial reporting, financial control, asset management and to ensure that other operating systems are in place. The ideal candidate will have graduated from a recognized post secondary institution with a degree in Business Administration, have an accounting designation, with five (5) years work experience in a senior financial position. A PMI project management professional designation would be an asset.

Executive Assistant

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and responsive to the President; this position is responsible for the management of the CEO’s and President’s offices. This position provides a key administrative support service for the senior management team and therefore, becomes, to some degree materially involved in virtually every undertaking of the Games.

Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with major course work in business/office administration or related field and three (3) years of experience in a similar position is required.

Previous games experience and/or the ability to communicate in both official languages is an asset for the above positions.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
