Job Opportunity – Canadian Paralympic Committee Senior Coordinator, Games Performance Enhancement

June 15, 2014 – The overall purpose of this position is to develop and implement targeted Paralympic Games Preparation plans for both the summer and winter Paralympic Games by working closely with National Sport Organisations (NSOs) technical staff. The Games Performance and Preparation would include Pre–Games planning and integration, support to NSOs with securing appropriate Pre-Games training camp venues, short listing potential quality venues, working closely with partners such as the Canadian Olympic Committee and Own the Podium and assisting with development and implementation of functional area programs under the ownership of the Games division of the CPC. This position will strive to maximize integrated planning and preparation for the Games and to effectively manage performance enhancement Pre-Games, as well as at Games delivery of services and post Games servicing as required.

This position manages the implementation of Games educational and mentorship initiatives to support and develop coaches and team leaders in maximizing preparation for the Games Environment as well as succession planning.

Reports To: Senior Manager, Games and Performance Enhancement

The candidate will work closely with all members of the Games Department as well as facilitate the integration and alignment with the overall vision for the Sport Department especially the System Excellence Unit. This position will work very closely with the Manager of System Excellence for full integration between Quadrennial Sport Planning and Games Preparation and Plans

Location: Ottawa

Primary Responsibilities-(included but not limited to) Paralympic & Parapan American Games Plans
• Work in collaboration with targeted and non-targeted NSOs in the development and implementation of Games plans for all targeted audiences including athletes, coaches, team leaders, medical support.
• Manage the implementation of a preparation plan and progress report for bothwinter and summer Paralympic Games as well as Parapan American Games.
• Manage all logistical requirements to support of the plan with other key CPC staff while acting as the primary point of contact for those Games Enhancements.
• Develop and lead major functional areas essential to the operations of Team Canada at the Parapan Am and Paralympic Games. Examples may include cargo, travel, team clothing package, accreditation or other areas
• Work with NSOs on a regular basis to identify initiatives that meets requirements for Paralympic podium success.
• Find economies of scales as required between sports plans to optimize use of support team members, venues or others pieces of the plan.
• Work with NSOs to manage the implementation of a customized Games Simulation plan.
• Manage the implementation of an optimal site and venue familiarization plan and program in order that potential Paralympic Team members are familiar with Paralympic environment.
• Coordinate and organise assigned aspects of the program delivery for Paralympic Games (Summer and Winter) and enhancement initiatives such as performance center, technology needs and other performance related services.
• Coordinate and manage aspects of the program delivery for the sport specific Team Orientation Sessions and other specific initiatives around Games enhancements.
• Implement information and evaluation management processes related to Games preparation and delivery.

Paralympic and Parapan American Onsite Games Role
• At-Games role will be to directly support and service the assigned NSOs (targeted and non-targeted) in the implementation of their at-Games plan as designed within their specific plan.
• Implement any other educational initiatives and manage specific enhancements at Games.
• Other assigned duties as it relates to the successful delivery of Games enhancements

Paralympic Games Preparation
• Coordinate and organise assigned aspects of the program delivery for Paralympic Games (Summer and Winter) enhancement initiatives such as performance center, technology needs and other performance related services.
• Coordinate and manage aspects of the program delivery for the sport specific Team Orientation Sessions and other specific initiatives around Games enhancements
• Implement information and evaluation management processes related to Games preparation and planning
• Link with other Games performance partners such as the COC to maximize economy of scales between Paralympic and Olympic Plan in a similar sport.

Qualifications Education: College or University degree in sport related field preferred
• Post-secondary education, preferably in Sports Administration/Management or other sport related field. This position would be of interest to Coaches, High Performance Managers, Athletes and/or individuals who have experience within the Canadian Sport system at the high performance level, along with:

• A strong understanding of roles, responsibilities and organization within the national team program of an NSO;
• A strong background and understanding in Paralympic and/or Olympic Sports
• A commitment to continuing to strengthen the relationship with athletes, coaches and NSOs in order to achieve ongoing Podium success;
• A strong understanding of the multisport Games environment

Knowledge and Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
• A strong understanding of the Canadian Sport system;
• A strong understanding, recognition and respect for the roles, responsibilities and pressures of athletes, coaches and NSOs
• Be committed to continuing to strengthen the relationship with athletes, coaches and NSOs in order to achieve Paralympic Games Podium success;
• Understanding the Paralympic Games environment, pressures and uniqueness in order to best help prepare athlete, coaches and Team Leaders to perform during the Paralympic Games; and
• A strong sport technical knowledge (asset).

Skills required include:
• Strong project management and database management skills

• Effective Communicator and negotiator

Background: Olympic or Paralympic Coach, High Performance Manager, ex- Athlete Experience: Extensive knowledge of Canadian Sport System Computer Skills: Proficiency in excel and word; Bilingualism: Will be a considerable asset in this position.

Working Conditions
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, evening and weekend work required.
• Work is primarily in an open, fast-paced office environment
• Will be required to work evenings and weekends during the busiest periods, including Games and other special events

Travel: Extensive travel required for sport events; site visits; Games preparation initiatives and at-Games role
• Some overnight travel and off-site work required (e.g. for Games and meetings)
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and passport at all times

Salary Range: $43,000-$53,000
